12, Soft Noise By The Door

About this Work
Not a knock. Not a scratch. Something softer, the sound that makes you look up from what you were doing and listen, without quite knowing why. The soft noise you’ve learned to distinguish from the house settling, because it has a different quality. A live quality.
Against teal, a bird descends, or lands, or departs, the moment deliberately ambiguous. Dark and light marks cut across each other at the body, the wings still held in the posture of motion. There is something hushed about it, intimate, as if the painting itself is the noise in question: quiet enough that you might miss it, distinct enough that you won’t.
