08, Holding Still

About this Work
The held breath. The moment before the cat springs or the heron lifts, a quality of absolute presence masquerading as absence. Holding Still catches a creature in that suspension: patient, concentrated, absolutely itself.
Two forms find each other on a soft white ground, pale bodies assembled from fragments of collage and quiet mark, the layered surface suggesting depth beneath the stillness. The painting has the quality of a held moment, of something poised. There is tenderness in it, and also watchfulness. A painting for people who understand the difference between rest and readiness.
