01, Ebbing and Flowing

About this Work
There is a particular quality to movement that is almost stillness, the shift of weight from one haunch to another, the settling of muscles before the next step. Ebbing and Flowing catches a large animal at exactly that threshold: neither departing nor arriving, but present in the fullest sense of the word.
The form builds gradually, emerging from a warm ground of sand and ash through layers of collaged mark and acrylic gesture. Blues and greys fracture across the surface where the anatomy gathers its energy; a diagonal tension runs through the body like an unresolved sentence. The shape is unmistakable once you find it, and then impossible to unsee.
This is the largest work in the Creatures edition, and it carries that scale well. A piece for people who stop in front of things and wonder about them.
