About this Work
There is always one. The cat that knows every room, the bird that watches from the same wire, the animal whose habits have overlapped with yours so long that you’ve stopped noticing and started assuming. Kitchen Shadow is about that particular presence, noticed at the edge of ordinary things, gone before you can look directly.
On a ground of pale, bleached green, the colour of morning light through net curtains, a heron-like form assembles from collaged grey and blue, its long neck a vertical stripe of precision within the loose layering of the body. Vertical marks cut through the composition like light through a door frame. Still, formal, and somehow completely at home.
